Vienna shows ways to the climate -friendly health of the future!
Klinik Floridsdorf, 121גות Wien, Österreich - The city trilogy, which took place on June 11th and 12th in Vienna, focused on the topics of health and climate protection. On the occasion of the meeting, Mayor Michael Ludwig presented three central projects that Vienna define as a European model for a future -proof, climate -friendly and health -oriented city. Among other things, Zurich's city president Corine Mauch and Hamburg's first mayor Peter Tschentscher were present. These meetings are part of an ongoing discussion about innovative urban planning approaches.
Vienna has focused strongly in recent years to play a leading role in city health. Health, as a social megatrend, significantly influences urban development, which is also reflected in the urban health concept. The focus is on measures to improve well -being, quality of life and social participation, which are not only important in large cities, but also in small and medium -sized cities. The concept of city health means structures and measures that create a safe and livable urban environment. Stadtmanufaktur also describes central aspects such as urban health protection, health promotion and climate adaptation.
innovative projects in Vienna
An outstanding example of Vienna's commitment in the field of health is the Klinik Floridsdorf , which was opened in 2019. With 681 beds and 14 departments, it is one of the most modern health facilities in Europe. Around 12,000 operations are carried out there every year. The climate protection measures used are particularly remarkable, which include the use of rainwater and the expansion of the wheel infrastructure. An innovative project is the "Grätzelheitung", which uses excess warmth of server rooms from the digital REALTY to produce district heating. This project started in the winter of 2023 and enables up to 70% of the clinic to cover up to a climate -neutral clinic. By using these waste heat, the clinic can save up to 4,000 tons of CO₂ per year.
In addition, the EBSWIEN ATWIENLY ATWIEN a large-scale heat pump will be put into operation at the end of 2023. This system removes cleaned waste water to generate climate -neutral district heating. The current level of performance is 55 megawatts, with the aim of doubleing to 110 megawatts and thus supplying up to 112,000 households with heat. In addition, an annual CO₂ saving of up to 300,000 tons is sought.
resource -saving technology
Another exciting project is the Waste2value Research system in Simmering. Biogenic waste such as wood residues and sewage sludge synthesis gas is generated here. The pilot plant has an output of 1 megawatts and could contribute to the development of green hydrogen and methane in the future. This combines business, science and public sector and shows how innovative approaches to use resource use in Vienna.
The projects presented show that Vienna is on the way to become a health metropolis and at the same time implement climate -friendly solutions. The ongoing measures not only promote health protection, but also make a contribution to climate protection, which further strengthens the international reputation of the city.
