Vienna stays the same: district elections without surprises!
Wien, Österreich - In the district representative elections in Vienna on April 28, 2025, there were no significant surprises. In this choice, the balance of power in 23 districts was determined. According to Krone , the strongest parliamentary group has the right of proposal for the district manager. This post has symbolic importance, but has little real power.
In the past legislative period, the SPÖ dominated with 17 districts. The ÖVP was at the top in 3 districts, including the city center, Hietzing and Döbling, while the Greens ruled in 3 other districts, namely new building, Alsergrund and Währing. The NEOS could still not have a district leader.
no political change
A striking result of the elections is that no district changed its political color compared to the 2020 elections. Old and new district leaders were still confirmed, although some of them had to accept the losses in the smug. SPÖ and Greens continue to prevail within the belt, while the ÖVP was able to defend its top position in Döbling, the city center and Hietzing.
Kleinparties were able to win a few seats in this election, but this was not a significant success. After the elections, it is clear that the next district representative election is scheduled for April 28, 2025, which offers a outlook on the future political landscape in Vienna.
