The Agency for Passenger and Passenger Rights (apf) recently published its punctuality report for Austrian rail transport in 2023. Despite adverse conditions such as extreme weather, construction sites and delayed train handovers, general punctuality remained at a high level.
Punctuality in local and long-distance transport:
WESTbahn was the leader in long-distance transport with a punctuality rate of 83.7 percent. ÖBB-Personenverkehr achieved 80.3 percent, while RegioJet brought up the rear with 64.4 percent. On ÖBB local transport, punctuality was an impressive 94.2 percent. Vorarlberg was the most punctual federal state with 96.6 percent, while Upper Austria was at the bottom of the ranking with 92.7 percent.
Compensation for annual tickets:
Annual ticket holders receive compensation if the punctuality level is not achieved. For the Climate Ticket Austria, a monthly punctuality rate of at least 93 percent applies. The claim can be made via the website www.klimaticket.at or at ÖBB-Personenverkehr.
The publication of the report offers a comprehensive insight into punctuality in Austrian rail transport and highlights the difficulties and successes of the various companies.
