Back between the posts: Alexander's unexpected VSV comeback

In an exciting game that took place at the weekend, the VSV competed against HC Bolzano and lost unhappily in penalty shooting. Alexander Schmidt, who returned after almost one and a half years of absence, stood unexpectedly in the goal for the VSV. He had previously fought for the Bregenzerwald and was now allowed to help out in goal due to injuries by the regular keeper JP Lamoureux and Rene Swette as well as the late arrival of newcomer Joe Cannata.

With a wide grin, Schmidt entered the arena, where he was enthusiastically received by his old teammates and fans. In the first third, he demonstrated his class by defending ten shots alone. However, at the first goal of the Bozner, which fell in the seventh minute, he was unable to do anything when the puck slipped over his line after a save.

In the second third, the team from Villach showed a strong performance, but the puck simply didn't want to go online. Despite a five -minute outnumber due to a match penalty against Bolzano, the pressure and the nervousness of the eagles prevented a point gain. Only ten minutes before the end of the regular season Maxi Rebernig managed to compensate with a skilful shot in overnight.

In the heated final phase, however, the Villacher awarded some chances, which caused the game to be extended. During this time, the VSV players had numerous ways to win the game for themselves, but could not take the lead.

In the subsequent penalty shootout, which required 14 attempts, Schmidt demonstrated again by defending four shots. Nevertheless, the VSV could not score the decisive goal, and ultimately Matt Bradley secured the extra point for Bolzano with his goal.

What's next?

When asked how things will continue for the VSV, it remains unclear whether Cannata will be available in good time for the upcoming game in Asiago or the subsequent game in Feldkirch. The Manager of the VSV, Martin Winkler, mentioned that the situation was re -evaluated every day. The whereabouts of Schmidt, on the other hand, depend on the situation in Kitzbühel in terms of future planning for the goalkeeper position.

This exciting and dramatic game was thrilled by the fans, even if the result was not in its favor. The next challenge will be to learn from this experience and prepare for the upcoming encounters.
