Economic Association: ÖVP under criticism - political consequences required!
In the Vorarlberg Economic Association affair, the regional court of Feldkirch decided on Tuesday and spoke several prominent politicians guilty. Among them is the former state governor Karlheinz Rüdisser and three other former officials of the ÖVP participation organization. The convictions concern the acceptance of benefits and benefit to influence, with Rüdisser being fined 27,500 euros. The other accused, including Hans Peter Metzler, Jürgen Kessler and Walter Natter, received penalties between 10,000 and 15,000 euros, half of which were suspended for three years. The allegations specifically refer to the coverage of the costs for Christmas dinner worth 12,980 euros, which were paid by the Business Association, while Rüdisser invited, such as The press reported.
However, the judgments are not yet final because the accused's lawyers have already appealed. This judicial affair has caused great political vertebrae in Vorarlberg. The Economic Association itself was also convicted and received a conditional fine according to the Association Responsibility Act. The opposition parties are now calling for rigorous political consequences. The chair of the control committee in the state parliament, Eva Hammerer of the Greens, criticized the inability of the ÖVP to draw clear boundaries between legal politics and abuse of power, and demanded strengthening parliamentary control rights. The SPÖ and the NEOs agree in this requirement and see the need for political rethinking to ensure transparency and integrity, such as executed.Details | |
