Peter Lenzin, the talented saxophonist from the Rhine Valley, is celebrating an impressive 30 years on stage this year. With an active passion for music, which has served as his life's purpose since 1994, Lenzin sometimes plays with up to four different bands every week. For this special occasion, he is planning a concert series with a total of twenty performances to share his love of music with the audience.
In October, Lenzin released a special song that pays homage to his name, which has given him many variations over the years. Formerly known as Peterli, Peti, Pete or even Pedro, he uses this musical moment to celebrate his identity together with his drummer Jan Geiger. In addition, his own career shows how he went from being a businessman to becoming a successful musician. His teacher's advice led to his decision to study music seriously, and since then he has never doubted his decision.
A musical journey
Peter Lenzin's musical journey covers a wide spectrum. After playing with various bands in his free time, he developed a preference for different styles of music, from funk to blues to jazz. Classical and jazz training in cities like Feldkirch and Vienna helped fill his musical backpack.
The saxophonist draws inspiration from big names in the music scene, such as Jan Garbarek, and these influences flow into his sensitive musical meditations. In his concerts he notices how the audience engages with his music, which gives him incredible joy. His audience is loyal and the concerts in Altstätten and Speicher are consistently well attended.
Anniversary events and outlook
Peter Lenzin's current concert series, some of which are directed by himself, promises an exciting mix of jazz, world and pop. The highlights include two performances with the well-known bandleader Pepe Lienhard, during which the latter praised him and spoke of his almost perfect mastery of playing the saxophone. Another important event is the performance with the Goran Kovacevic Collective on October 26th in Rorschach.
These concerts are not only a celebration of his career, but also an opportunity to showcase the emotional depth and artistic virtuosity of his music. His work also includes the composition for the album “Here & Now”, which landed in second place on the national album hit parade in 2021, as well as the creation of a piece specifically for all Peters in the world.
His commitment to music is also evident in the cultural and concept space “ink” in Appenzell, where he has been curating a diverse music program since 2023. He wants to appeal to a wide audience and continue to pursue his vision of musical fusions.
For Lenzin, music is more than just a job - it is a passion that he brings to life not only for himself, but also for his audience. The upcoming anniversary concert with his band and the Goran Kovacevic Collective on October 26th promises to be another highlight of his impressive musical career.
