Large fire alarm: residents saved from apartments - the cause of the fire unclear!
Last Friday, February 23, 2025, a devastating fire broke out in a residential building in Wichnergasse in Feldkirch around 8:50 p.m. According to the first investigations by the Vorarlberg State Criminal Police Office, a socket or multiple socket in the ground floor apartment should be responsible for the fire, which spread quickly. The dense swaths of smoke prevented several residents from leaving the building over the staircase, which is why they had to be evacuated with the help of the fire brigade and a turntable ladder. In this dramatic effort, 185 firefighters and more than 70 rescue workers were deployed to cope with the situation. Eleven residents and a firefighter suffered injuries to an indefinite degree and had to be brought to surrounding hospitals. The house is currently no longer habitable, and the evacuated residents were accommodated in emergency accommodation, as vorarlberg.orf reported.

A little later, on January 3, 2025, in Vienna in the 10th district there was another fire that caused great danger. Two prams burned in the staircase of a house, which resulted in strong smoke development. When the Vienna professional fire brigade arrived, the fire was already well advanced, but the emergency services managed to quickly extinguish the remains of the prams and to ventilate the building. At the same time, 37 people, including five, who had to be hospitalized, were saved from the suffocating smoking conditions. Animals, such as a cat and five birds, were also brought to safety. The cause of the fire is currently still investigated by the State Criminal Police Office, such as Feuerwehren.at reported.
