Pleasing turn: landfill in the Tisner Ried is not realized!
In the Tisner Ried there is great relief: the planned excavation landfill, which should accommodate more than 43,000 cubic meters of rubble for a period of ten years, is not realized. This decision was made after intensive discussions between Mayor Manfred Rädler (ÖVP) and the landowner. Due to the massive resistance of the Feldkirch Greens and concerned residents, who warned of an additional 60 truck trips a day, the project was finally abandoned. According to vorarlberg.orf.at , the Ried is now preserved as a valuable habitat for animals and as a recreation area for the population.
massive concerns and legal exams
The city of Feldkirch expressed its concerns about the project at an early stage. According to forecasts, the effects of such a project would have resulted in between 40 and 120 additional truck journeys through the Ried every day. The city checked various legal options for preventing the landfill and planned to terminate the lease with the property owner, since it wanted to use urban areas for the landfill project, while at the same time the urban traffic should be relieved by other projects. As gsi-news.at , the city has been able to formulate their concerns in a conversation, which led to the change of decision of the owner.
The now final rejection to the landfill is an important step for environmental protection in the region and underlines the importance of the Tisner Ried as a natural area. According to Mayor Rädler, the situation is a success for the community and shows how important it is to take concerns seriously and find solutions together. However, the whereabouts remain unclear, since no alternatives for the deposit of the material are yet known.
