Seven mayoral elections in Vorarlberg: Who will be the winner?
In Vorarlberg there will be an exciting electoral thriller in two weeks: seven municipalities stand in front of mayoral elections, an absolute record for the region. The People's Party (ÖVP) is dominating in these competitions, which in Lustenau is fighting for the successor of Kurt Fischer. This is where the ÖVP relies on Patrick Wiedl, Member of the Landtag, who was ahead with 3,482 votes in the first round. But FPÖ candidate Martin Fitz urges dangerously close with only 812 votes behind. The Green Simon Vetter is also a serious threat with 15 votes behind Fitz, such as Vol.at reported.
In Dornbirn, Markus Fänler will try to outdo Julian Fässler, the desired candidate of the outgoing mayor Andrea Kaufmann (ÖVP). Fäßler secured 25.5 percent of the votes, while Fässler came to 37 percent. In Götzis, Manfred Böhmwalder from the ÖVP and Christoph Längle, a former FPÖ politician, are the main actors. Böhmwalder wants to assert his position as the reigning mayor. The election campaign in Feldkirch shows a downward trend for the ÖVP, which nevertheless keeps the lead with 36.8 percent, while the FPÖ increases with 25.4 percent. Here the FPÖ candidate Andrea Kerbleder fights against Manfred Rädler from the ÖVP to move into the town hall. The exciting competition is also expected in Nenzing between Michael Hartmann and Kornelia Spiß (FPÖ), where there is a risk of color change in local politics. In addition, some mayors like Martin Staudinger have to worry about their re -election after they stayed behind the challengers in the first round, as vorarlberg.orf described.
