Alpine emergency on Achensee: mountain rescuers save hikers out of the danger

A hiker from Hungary went into an alpine emergency in the night from November 22nd to November 23, 2024, while he was traveling through the snowy mountains around the Achensee. The 45-year-old man started his accommodation in Pertisau on a cloudy morning around 6:00 a.m.

After reaching the sea cream, he continued his climb to the 2053 -meter -high lake ski tip, where he arrived around 7:00 p.m. Despite the current successes, the way back was challenging, since up to 40 cm fresh snow made it difficult to hike. Finally he reached the summit of the Lake Eleberspitze around 11:00 p.m. and went back to Pertisau on the descent. Unfortunately, due to the darkness and the difficult to recognize markings, he lost orientation and instead wandered towards Huberkar.

alpine difficulties and emergency call

On this unfortunate path, he fell around and slipped about 200 meters on rocky terrain. Although he only suffered minor injuries, he decided to spend the night on a ledge because his condition deteriorated. At 04:02 a.m. he contacted his wife by phone, who immediately made an emergency call.

The rescue control center reacted promptly and alerted the Maurach mountain rescue. This opened on foot towards Seeberg, supported by a rescue helicopter that arrived at 7:00 a.m. The crew was finally able to locate the heavily hypothermic hiker, recover it with a rope and bring it safely to Pertisau.

After his salvage, the hiker was examined by an emergency doctor and was finally able to return to his accommodation. This incident clearly shows how important it is to recognize your own limits and act as a security, especially under the challenging conditions that the alpine area brings with it in winter.
