Refurbishment of the Pfänder tunnel: This is how it continues in Vorarlberg!

Bregenz, Österreich - ASFINAG starts on March 10 with the comprehensive renovation of the Pfänder tunnel on the Rhine Valley Autobahn (A14). These construction measures mean an investment volume of a total of 34 million euros in order to modernize the operating and safety technology of the western tube. This work mainly takes place at night so that the traffic is impaired as little as possible. From April 14th, traffic will be redirected to the Oströhre, which will be set up as a oncoming traffic area, as 5min.at reports.

additional bridge renovations

In parallel to the tunnel work, the renovation of the bridges and lanes at the Bregenz and Wolfurt-Lauterach junctions begins on March 17 with further expenses of 13 million euros. In principle, two traces per direction should remain free on the A14. However, some state and municipal roads are temporarily blocked under the bridges, and local diversions are planned. Especially on busy days, such as during the holidays in May or the Bregenz Festival, the tunnel remains free of construction site, such as Sn.at Added.

For motorway users, this means that over 40,000 vehicles roll through the Pfänder tunnel every day. The measures will be completed by autumn 2026, followed by a further renovation of the eastern tube of the Pfänder tunnel in 2026 in order to improve traffic safety.
