Runoff election earthquake: Who will be mayor in Vorarlberg's key communities?
The municipal elections took place in Vorarlberg on March 16, 2025, which brought some surprising results. In Bregenz, Michael Ritsch from the SPÖ was re-elected to office, while Simon Tschann from the ÖVP was also able to defend his post in Bludenz. The voters, a total of around 307,900 in 96 municipalities, were also called upon to elect new municipal councils. A remarkable 61 municipalities had direct mayoral elections, while 13 municipalities had majority elections, a unique feature of this region. However, there is now a runoff election in seven municipalities, including the two district capitals of Dornbirn and Feldkirch, as vorarlberg.ORF.at reported.
In order to fully prepare citizens for the upcoming election decisions, ORF Vorarlberg will offer numerous broadcasts and formats. From March 19th, the candidates will be presented in duels at the ORF state broadcasting center in Dornbirn, which will be summarized daily in “Vorarlberg Today”. Viewers can also follow the full duels on the online platform ORF ON. On the runoff election day, March 30, 2025, ORF 2 V will broadcast a special program at 6:25 p.m. in which the results of the mayoral runoff election will be presented, moderated by David Breznik. ORF Radio Vorarlberg will also report live on developments and provide information so that voters stay up to date, as OTS reported.
