Traditional festival of the clubs: Krumpendorf celebrates the day of work!
Krumpendorf, Österreich - On May 1, 2025, the traditional “Festival of the Associations” took place in Krumpendorf, which was visited by numerous citizens. In bright spring weather, the participants came together to celebrate this special day. The mayor of the community, Manfred Bacher, gave an appealing speech in which he reminded of the hard working conditions of previous generations. He reported how people used to work up to 16 hours a day six days a week.
Bacher pointed out that the grandparents and great -grandparents fought for fairer working conditions many years ago and the introduction of the holiday on May 1st. May 1st, known as the day of work, justice and solidarity, has been celebrated in Austria since 1890 and was introduced in 1919 as a state holiday, which underlines its historical importance.
a holiday with history
May 1st is not only firmly anchored in Austria, but is also committed in many other countries, including Germany, Belgium and parts of Switzerland, as a public holiday. This day has its roots in the North American workers' movement, which demanded the eight -hour day in 1886. The violent clashes that took place during the Haymarket affair in Chicago made the fighting day of the labor movement known worldwide
in 1889, May 1st was finally proclaimed at the founding congress of the Second International as an international day for the workers. Initial corns in Austria already moved over 100,000 people to the Vienna Prater in 1890. In the context of history, May 1, 1919 in the first Republic of Austria was officially recognized as a holiday. During National Socialism, this day received a different political orientation, but was re -introduced as a legal holiday after the Second World War in 1946.
appreciation of the volunteer
Mayor Bacher took the opportunity to praise the commitment of the numerous clubs and volunteers in the community. He thanked the club members who worked tirelessly for the village community and for the successful implementation of the festival. Such events strengthen cohesion and promote solidarity within the community.
Overall, the "Festival of the Associations" reflected the essence of May 1st - a day that has long since grown beyond the economic concerns and also celebrates the community feelings and appreciation for volunteering.
