Despite his criticism of the bureaucracy, Daschnig confirmed his support for the goals of the EU Green Deal. However, he sees the current bureaucratic hurdles as a hindrance to the implementation of these goals. There is also a climate law in the development, which is intended to clarify the responsibilities of the ministries and the integration of the federal states and communities. According to the government program, Austrian politics also strives to climate neutrality by 2040.cost estimate and Mercosur Agreement

European climate and environmental policy
In the context of EU policy, environmental protection plays a central role. As the Federal Chancellery, the EU not only issued specific environmental protection standards in the form of regulations, but also set the goal until 2050 become. This includes a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 % by 2030 compared to 1990. The European climate pact from April 2021 and the legislative proposals of the European Commission show the will to update existing legal provisions and to introduce new measures to achieve the climate goals.
In Austria, sustainability has been anchored in the Federal Constitutional Act since 2013. The joint agricultural policy (GAP) of the EU, which has been in force since January 1, 2023, aims to support farmers, to ensure a stable food supply and at the same time actively act against climate change. Almost a third of the EU budget is reserved for the GAP, which underlines the importance of this policy area.
In summary, it can be said that the challenges in the field of environmental and climate protection must be tackled extensively not only in Austria, but also in the EU. The demands for reducing bureaucracy and more effective action are urgent to achieve the goals set.Details | |
