Winter in the Hochstein: Ski area remains closed - gastronomy in need

In the Tyrolean ski area Hochstein, the winter season faces an unexpected challenge. The region, which is usually filled with snow and winter joys, faces a massive cancellation of cancellation this year. The reason for these developments is the sudden closure of the ski area, which leads to concern and disappointment with the local gastronomy and hotel companies.

The closure of the ski area can be traced back to the outdated double -lift. According to information from the ORF, it is not possible to obtain the necessary parts in good time, so that those responsible for the Lienz mountain railways have decided to stop operating. "The armchair clamps have to be replaced and can no longer be delivered this year," said chairman of the supervisory board Franz Theurl. In addition, 24 fixed armchairs have already been removed, so that safe use of the lift is no longer guaranteed.

The effects on local businesses

This decision has serious consequences for local restaurateurs and hoteliers. Hotelier Reinhold Tiefenbacher from the Hotel Moosalm expressed his worries: "For us this is a big disaster, and for us it looks like 80 percent of the hotel guests have already canceled," which is very stressful for the economic situation. In view of the enormous dependence on winter tourism, this cancellation is an existential threat to many companies.

While some hotelier colleagues in the region express similar concerns, Peter Csonka, owner of the Hotel Schlossberghof, seems a little more relaxed. "I will survive because I am in the valley floor," he said, but still plans a temporary closure of his restaurant in January and February, since the winter months will probably not be worthwhile for him.

The shock wave goes beyond the hospitality industry. Christoph Stotter, the head of the Schlossberg ski school, describes the situation as catastrophic. With the investments in equipment to prepare the toboggan trail, he is now faced with: "You took my existence in one fell swoop."

The Lienzer Bergbahnen made this decision in an economic context because the company has been struggling with financial difficulties for years. "I've been running for five years now to renovate the mountain railways. We don't have the money for winter operation on the Hochstein," said Franz Theurl and pointed out the high financial burden.

Although the coming season is canceled for Hochstein, there is still hope: the neighboring Zettersfeld ski area will be open after a single -line orbit has been renovated there. The winter sports enthusiasts can thus use the surrounding areas, while Hochstein faces an uncertain future.

The current developments can act as a wake -up call for many business owners and the local community. The dependence on winter tourism is clear and economic uncertainty is becoming increasingly noticeable.
