Expensive sports pass in Lienz: City increases grant for children and young people

From November 1st, the Lienz sports pass for sports enthusiasts will become significantly more expensive. This popular all-purpose annual card is particularly in demand for the residents of Lienz and enables a variety of leisure activities. The price for the sports pass for adults increases from 592 euros to 649 euros. Seniors also have to dig deeper into the pocket, the price of which increases from 506 to 559 euros. Interesting for families is the increase in the price of sports passes for children with elementary school age, which increases from 283 to 309 euros.

At the meeting of the local council on October 22nd, this price increase was discussed. A central concern was to intercept the increasing costs for urban sports offers, which is why the city of Lienz will increase the grant for children and adolescents. This is now increased from 100 to 126 euros for the categories K and VK, which include children and adolescents. This means that the current price increases for some groups, especially for the younger residents of Lienz.

The increase in prices also affects other groups of people. Larger children, adolescents, students and presence servants now pay 489 euros instead of 447 euros. Although prices rise, the hope remains that the grants will reduce the financial pressure on the families concerned. The city only receives 23 euros from the amount for a young person, since the majority flows into the cash register of the Lienz mountain railways, which are responsible for the promotion aids and infrastructure.

The sports pass enables the promotion aids on Hochstein and Zettersfeld all year round, provided that they are open. In addition, the Dolomitenbad, the Tristachersee lido and the ice skating system on Pustertaler Straße are part of the offer. Interestingly, pass owners also receive free access to Bruck Castle, which adds a cultural component to the offer.

Many citizens of Lienz are affected by the price increase and express mixed feelings. The increase is part of a larger trend that affects the costs of urban services. Experts and municipal councils must now search for solutions that make it possible to continue to receive the city of Lienz as an attractive location for families and sports enthusiasts.
