Safe bicycle boxes at Lienz station: Modern solution for cyclists
The parking facilities for bicycles at Lienz station have recently been significantly improved. Bicycle rides are becoming increasingly popular, and it is not unusual that almost nine percent of passengers will get bike to the train station. This applies all the more because the use of e-bikes increases significantly. In order to meet the requirements of the cyclists, the Tyrol Transport Association, in cooperation with the city of Lienz and the ÖBB, realized new solutions in order to cover the need for safe parking spaces.
At the train station there are now closable bicycle boxes that not only protect against bad weather and vandalism, but also make the theft of bicycles difficult. The new cycling system located in the area of the bus terminal consists of five double boxes and offers a total of space for ten bicycles. Five boxes are at ground level and therefore ideal for e-bikes. The remaining boxes are accessible via a swiveling rail with gas pressure springs.
The advantages of the cycling boxes
Mobility Councilor René Zumtobel explained the importance of these new cycling boxes: "The bicycle is an ideal feeder to the train station in many places and thus a key to switching to the public. As a supplement to the bicycle parking spaces, the solution is the solution for those who have already exchanged the car for a climatic and a high-quality environmental mode for the first and last mile." This promotes sustainable mobility, which is of great importance today.
In addition, the lower boxes are equipped with power connections in order to be able to conveniently charging e-bikes. There is also space to hang up clothing or bicycle helmets. Mayor Elisabeth Blanik also expresses itself positively about this new offer: "The new cycling boxes at our mobility center in Lienz enable all passengers that have come to the train station by bike, a calmly travel by train or bus, since your bike is safe and weather -protected."
The handling of the cycling boxes could not be easier. Cyclists have quick access to the boxes via the "VVT Radbox" app or the online platform Radbox.vvt.at. Registration and payment is uncomplicated, and the rental costs are manageable: a day costs 1.80 euros, a week 6.20 euros and the annual fee 99.00 euros for a ground -level box. In the upper area, the fee is 89.00 euros. Two of the boxes are always reserved for short -term bookings to also take spontaneous users into account.
Overall, this initiative represents a significant step towards more sustainable mobility in Lienz. By providing safe storage options, cycling is promoted as part of public transport and encourages more people to use environmentally friendly means of transport
