Refurbishment of the warrior chapel: Need for action before anniversary!
Lienz, Österreich - On September 8, 2025, the warrior chapel in Lienz will celebrate its 100th anniversary. The chapel, designed by Clemens Holzmeister and designed by Albin Egger-Lienz, is not only an architectural landmark, but also an important monument to the victims of war of the First World War. As part of the celebrations, the exhibition "Albin Egger-Lienz and the Teufele painter-ambiguous contemporary history 100 years ago" will also be seen. This will be opened on September 8, 2025 and presented around 50 exhibits, including around 30 works by Albin Egger-Lienz and other works of art by Franz von Defregger, Hugo Engl and Josef Manfreda. The vernissage takes place accompanied by a memorial fair, which is led by the Innsbruck diocesan bishop Hermann Glettler.
historical context of the chapel
The idea for the chapel arose towards the end of the First World War, and the painting began on July 1, 1925. The inauguration was a big festival with around 10,000 visitors, including the Federal President. However, the chapel has an eventful story that is shaped by an internal argument about the representation of the "risen". In 1926 he led to an interdict -like ban on services that was only lifted in 1983.
Museum Schloss Bruck describes that Albin Egger-Lienz, who was died in the memory on his own request. The chapel remains an important cultural heritage and a memorial for the victims of the wars, which shapes the identity of the Lienz district.
