New Sonnenlounge in Lienz: Green Recreation Room planned on the Isel bank!

Lienz, Österreich - The city of Lienz plans to build a new “sunlounge” on the left bank of the Isel in the Iselkai park. The plans were presented during a council meeting on March 25, 2023, with the third phase of the planning explained. The design office Aberjung has visualized the designs, which are, however, without guaranteeing the actual implementation. Mayor Elisabeth Blanik described the visualizations as "rapprochement" to what is sought.

The costs for the "sun lounge" are estimated at around a quarter of a million euros. First suggestions for the lounge, including a beach with deck chairs on the bank, met with little approval. The current plan provides for a 40-meter-wide, highly slanted grass slope solution with large serpentine stone blocks as seating. Some trees must be felled for the implementation, which was previously discussed with Renate Hölzl by the East Tyrol Nature Association.

flood protection and relaxation

In parallel to the planning of the sun lounge, the start of the second construction phase of the flood protection project in Lienz will start in two weeks. The start of the project was in December 2023 and aims at the deepening of the Isel. The first construction phase that came to the level measuring point has already been completed. The second construction phase starts on November 4, whereby the work in the area of the former dairy will begin.

The construction road is set up in the river bed to minimize the impairment of road traffic. Overall, a 500 square meter sun lounge is built in the Iselpark for around 180,000 euros. A bank wall is cut open, the stone lighting increases and access to the water is facilitated. In addition, a ramp -shaped recreational area is created on the left bank of the bank, which ensures shadows through trees.

sustainable urban development

The city of Lienz not only pursues the goal of flood protection, but also sustainable urban development. The services in landscape architecture as well as environmental and urban development are supported by companies such as Planstatt Senner. These have focused on improving the quality of life and promoting biodiversity. Innovative rainwater management systems are also integrated to optimize resource use.

Mayor Blanik also hoped that a reduction in the area of the sun lounge could reduce the costs. However, the urban construction experts pointed out that there could also be an increase in costs. The municipal council agreed to the visions, but concrete plans and the associated costs have to be approved again.
