Francophile discovery tour: culture and enjoyment in the champagne

From October 23 to 27, there was a special trip for the participants of the French courses at the Volkshochschule Lienz. The group, which was made up of passionate “Frankophils”, explored the fascinating region of Champagne in France and experienced a combination of culture and enjoyment.

The program included different cultural highlights, starting with a city tour by Metz. The travelers visited the impressive cathedral of Saint-Étienne, which is famous for their breathtaking windows, designed by the well-known artist Marc Chagall. Another item on the program was to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Cathedral Notre Dame de Reims, whose architectural beauty amazed visitors. Before the group continued to go to Mulhouse, she made a stop at the Church Notre Dame Du Haut in Ronchamp, which was designed by the legendary architect Le Corbusier.

cultural experiences and enjoyable discoveries

A particularly emotional experience was the visit to the "Memorial de Verdun", the largest battlefield of the First World War. The memorial offers a deep insight into the history and the consequences of the war, which gave the participants to think. Of course, a ride through the picturesque champagne wine mountains around Reims could not be missing. During an informative tour of the champagne winery G.H. Mumm & Cie learned a lot about the manufacturing process of the famous drink.

Another culinary highlight was visiting a cheese dairy in Chaource. Here the travelers could not only taste the local cheese, but also enjoy the delicious champagne. For many, the opportunity was taken to take some delicacies for home in order to be able to share the taste experiences at the next meeting with friends and family.

In addition to all these activities, there was enough time to explore the charming area and to use and deepen the French language skills learned in the course. The combination of cultural knowledge and linguistic practice made this trip an unforgettable experience for the participants.
