Honor for monument conservators: Tyrolean prize winners in focus

On October 24, 2023, a solemn ceremony took place in the historic Lehár Theater in Bad Ischl, at which the Republic of Austria awarded a total of 13 monument protection medals. This award recognizes the exceptional commitment of individuals to the preservation of significant monuments. Among those honored were two highly esteemed personalities from East Tyrol, including Angela Frey with her outstanding project “New use for the Iselhof residence” in Lienz and Reinhard Greil, who works with his company “Denkmalschutz Gerüstlos” in Dölsach.

Reinhard Greil was honored for the successful restoration of the late medieval tower roof of the Spitz parish church in Lower Austria. This important construction site, whose origins date back to 1505, has international significance. It is noteworthy that the roof structure, including battens and covering, was largely preserved in its original condition and therefore represents an important cultural asset. Amazingly, the restoration work was completed within a few months, which demonstrates the expertise and efficient working methods of Greil and his team.

The art of monument preservation

Greil, an experienced craftsman, specializes in restoring church roofs. With a wide range of knowledge in the areas of carpentry, roofing and plumbing, he has made the preservation of these historic buildings his life's work. Supported by a dedicated team, he uses innovative and careful methods to preserve the architectural heritage.

This award not only underlines Greil's personal commitment, but also reflects the importance of monument protection in Austria. Given the challenges that historic buildings often pose, it is above all the dedicated work of professionals like Greil that ensures that our history remains alive.

The preservation of monuments contributes not only to the cultural identity of the region, but also to education and understanding of the history of our ancestors. The honor in the Lehár Theater recognizes and focuses on the outstanding work that has been done in monument preservation in recent years.
