Fight for the Lueg Bridge: single -track traffic planned from 2025

A large change is imminent: The best -known bridge of the Brenner motorway - the Lueg Bridge - will become a needle for traffic in the coming year. From January 1, 2025, this important connection will only be accessible by a period of about six months. The bridge, which has been affected by various traffic problems since its opening in 1968, has to be renovated, which already shows negative effects on the flow of traffic.

The ASFINAG, the motorway operator, announced that the restrictions are inevitable due to the results of a main examination. The managing director Stefan Siegele emphasized that this measure was necessary in order to continue to guarantee the safety of the bridge. Due to the single-lane, the flow of traffic will change significantly, which will hit both drivers and truck drivers.

New traffic concept at the Luegbrücke

The planned traffic switches are affected by traffic towards Brenner and in the direction of Innsbruck. There will only be one lane on the low -traffic days, but a special traffic concept was developed for busy days, such as in summer. One of the central measures stipulates that heavy -duty vehicles drive in the middle of the bridge while cars are allowed to overtake on the right. This regulation is intended to help optimize the flow of traffic and avoid traffic jams.

To control the traffic flow, heavy trucks are weighed on special scales to ensure that they stay on the right lane. If a truck accidentally comes on the wrong lane, a discharge system that points the truck is activated to switch to the left lane. "We are confident that security will continue to be guaranteed," said Siegele.

Expansion of the barriers and driving bans

In order to relieve the residents of the burner highway and avoid traffic overloads, ASFINAG is planning seven new barriers to block and run-down. These measures are intended to ensure that trucks that are not intended for the region do not reach the residential areas unnecessarily. In addition, the controls for driving bans at the borders are also planned more intensively for the coming year in order to keep undesirable traffic away.

For external trucks, there are also 15 driving bans in Tyrol, which only allow local traffic in the area. These driving bans are an answer to the increased number of truck traffic jams that occurred again and again in the past, especially during holidays or on public holidays.

As part of the preparations for the upcoming challenges, ASFINAG will start renovation work on the bridge as early as Monday, October 7th to prevent any winter hedges. The construction work should take a few weeks and the final plans for the single -lane of the bridge will be worked out in the coming weeks.

The Lueg Bridge will therefore be increasingly becoming the field of vision of transport policy in the near future. However, a bigger problem arises on long freeway lines that also suffer from the high traffic. For comprehensive reporting on the problem, I drive to information, which recently from www.fr.de were published.
