Seven hikers in Tyrol: rescue on Christmas Eve!
On Christmas Eve, seven German hikers in Tyrol had to endure a dramatic rescue operation. The men, between the ages of 21 and 39, found themselves in acute distress while trying to reach the Rosswildalm because they could no longer make any progress due to extreme exhaustion and inadequate equipment. Despite the alarming situation, they were able to call for help via a satellite connection after being isolated due to a lack of cell phone reception in the Alpine region, like that Volksblatt reported.
The hikers started their tour on Monday and quickly found themselves in a hopeless situation. Their only rescue came from the mountain rescue services from the region, who were deployed to the area with a complex deployment of tracked quads and loyal foot troops. They were first taken to the Bamberger Hütte, where they could receive initial care. This comprehensive operation was not only coordinated by the mountain rescue teams from Hopfgarten, Westendorf and Kitzbühel, but also supported by the local fire departments and police forces tirol.ORF.at.
