Albert Popov, a name that causes a stir in the ski world! The Bulgarian sensationally secured his first World Cup victory at the night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio. As an eight -placed after the first round, Popov showed in the second run what he was in and overtook the competitors, including the Swiss Loic Meillard and the Croatian Samuel Kollega. In 2015, the life of the then 18-year-old changed suddenly when he plunged into the depths in a tragic traffic accident with his trainer and a assistant coach on the way to the Rettenbachferner in Sölden. The car came off the street and overturned more than 270 meters. While his trainer Drago Grubelnik died in the hospital and the assistant coach was seriously injured, Popov "only" has a break in the ankle and some grazes. He described this moment with the words: "I saw life from another side", which underlines the severity of the situation. Popov's journey back to the top of the skiing was not easy. After his comeback in 2016 in Sölden, he fought his way back to the top of the world with hard training and numerous FIS and European Cup races.
