Climate cavity tree species: final project strengthens alpine forests in Innsbruck

In Innsbruck, an important meeting was recently held, which marked the conclusion of the ARGE Alp project "Climate Cauche Baumarten for the mountain forests". After three years of intensive cooperation, experts from ten different regions met to present the results of their joint efforts. The aim of the project was to make the mountain forests in the Alps more resistant to the challenges of climate change.

The participants were representatives from regions such as Bavaria, South Tyrol, Trentino, Lombardy, Graubünden, St. Gallen, Ticino, Salzburg, Vorarlberg and Tyrol. This project was launched in 2021 and focused on the exchange of knowledge about climate -like tree species and sustainable forest methods. An important aspect was the planting of 5,000 trees, spread over the partner regions to help the mountain forests adapt to changed climatic conditions.

focus on the challenges of climate change

The project particularly emphasized how important it is to maintain the protective functions of the mountain forests. These forests not only act as natural barriers against natural hazards, but are also important CO₂ storage and habitats for many species. A central knowledge of the project work was the choice of plants: the trees were selected after their resistance to drought, pests and extreme weather conditions.

In his speech,

Josef Geisler, Tyrol's Foreferent, emphasized that climate change has enormous challenges for the mountain forests and emphasized the importance of cross -border cooperation. The project not only took positive measures to protect the forests, but also strengthened the exchange of knowledge between the alpine regions.

Another important step was to create a scientific report that offers recommendations for the climate adjustment of the mountain forests. In addition, a database was established that provides information about the seed requirements and the availability of suitable planting material. These steps are crucial to ensure long -term supply of robust plants.

sustainable exchange and future cooperation

A milestone of the meeting was the symbolic signing of a common explanation that obliges the partner regions to continue cooperation. This initiative is intended to maintain the platform for the exchange of knowledge and ensure that the Alpine forests will continue to be prepared for the challenges of climate change in the future.

The ARGE Alp, which was launched in 1972 on the initiative of Tyrol, plays a key role in the cooperation between the regions of Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. It is dedicated to numerous cross -border topics, including traffic, agriculture and climate protection. Interested parties can be found on the website www.argealp.org .

The challenges that take place behind the scenes of the mountain forests are complex. Therefore, the exchange for growing methods, crop protection and genetic research is still being intensified. In the future, the knowledge from the project should help to significantly strengthen the resilience of the mountain forests and thus make a sustainable contribution to environmental protection.
