Alfred Dorfer about society and cabaret: hope in difficult times
Alfred Dorfer has presented his view of the current challenges of society in his new solo program "Albatz" in the Innsbruck Green House. In an interview that took place after the preliminary premiere, he addressed the racking within society and expressed his views on the results of the National Council election, which he described as not unexpected. Dorfer particularly emphasized the defamation of voters of the FPÖ and called these statements "incredibly inhumane".
The greenhouse is a familiar place for Dorfer. "It's like coming home," he noticed, because the audience has been loyal to him for years. In his new program, he tries to present current topics such as education and climate change in digestible portions in order to illuminate them from different perspectives and make the audience think.
political cabaret and social responsibility
The question of whether cabaret must be political decided to answer Dorfer, but differentiates between political cabaret and politically colored cabaret. In his opinion, it is important to tackle social issues without using people to go to people or names.
In terms of the current political landscape, he expressed that voters should not simply be regarded as naive voices. In his comment on the situation in Germany, where he leads the growing strength of the AfD and Sahra Wagenknecht, he speaks of general dissatisfaction with the political status quo. "The message of voters is clear: 'We don't want to continue as before,'," he said. Dorfer criticizes politics that failed to react to these needs and states that the election result cannot be considered as a surprise.
Dorfer also recognized the helplessness of many political actors. This is a consequence of inactivity, which has led to the established parties that the citizens feel alienated from the established parties. "If parties, like the Social Democrats, cannot build a clear attitude on important topics, this is a big problem for democracy," said Dorfer. He believes that the overall social effort has now been asked to find solutions and to reach the population again.
The cabaret artist sees a real threat to democracy in the lack of prospects in Corona pandemic. In his analysis of today, he describes the building generation of young people as spoiled because they have lived in a safe socio -political bladder for a long time. Many motivate the negative information and the uncertainties that have increased by various crises-from Corona to the Ukraine War-to a pessimism that is clearly shown in social discourse.
How the future can be designed better sees Dorfer in the fact that political actors and society have to take responsibility together. He refers to the positive movements that are recognizable in society, such as the flood, where people came together to help, regardless of their political orientation. Promotion of positive cooperation could be the key to a positive social change, he believes.
With its 200,000 spectators in the last program,Dorfer is proof that he succeeds in reaching audiences beyond his own circle. Nevertheless, he is aware that there are many who consciously avoid contact with him. "I am not a niche kasperl, I would like everyone to have the opportunity to listen to me across their political preferences," he indicated.
The conversation with Dorfer shows that both the cabaret artist and society are asked as a whole to put the dialogue again on a friendly and balanced basis. The challenges we are facing are large, but Dorfer remains optimistic and firmly believes in the possibility of positive change, even if it can only show visible effects on a small scale.
In this sense, he also states: "The most fatal for democracy is lack of perspective". Creating such perspectives will be a decisive task for the coming years. You can read more about this topic and the thoughts of Alfred Dorfer in the article on www.vol.at Read.
