Tyrol's security forum: focus on extreme weather in focus
In Tyrol, the danger from weather extremes has increased significantly in recent years, which presents crisis management with special challenges. The third Tyrolean security forum took place on Thursday, in which around 30 representatives of authorities and security organizations came together. This meeting, organized at the invitation of Security Councilor Astrid Mair, aimed to discuss the measures to adapt to the climatic changes.
"We have to adapt to the more intensive extreme weather events that appear increasingly in the form of muries, floods or hail," said Mair. According to her, regular exchanges and further developments are crucial to ensure the safety of the population. Manfred Bauer, head of the Tyrol and Vorarlberg regional office near Geosphere Austria, reported on the current challenges. He illuminated the problem of the weather forecast, especially with locally limited extreme weather phenomena.
prediction and adaptation to weather extreme
Bauer explained that large weather events can often be predicted in good time. In the case of small -scale thunderstorms, however, only a few communities can be affected, which makes it difficult to predict. "These storms no longer only appear in the known seasons and often exceed previous experience," he said.
The constant changes in the climatic conditions mean that the Tyrolean fire brigades are increasingly called for operations due to floods and storm damage. In this context, state fire brigade inspector Rene Staudacher said that the competencies of the fire brigades had to be expanded in order to be able to react better to the growing threats.
A central component in an emergency are the disaster relief trains, which consist of around 50 emergency services and ten vehicles. You will be mobilized when local forces are reached to your limits or specialized equipment is required. There are currently 19 such auxiliary trains in Tirol that are trained for different situations such as floods or forest fires.
Financial support for effective measures
In order to further support the operational organizations, Mair announced a new purpose grant. "With a total of 2.3 million euros a year, we would like to ensure that the emergency services can make the necessary investments in their equipment and structures," she emphasized. This illustrates the efforts of the Tyrolean government to react as best as possible to the challenges of climate change.
In view of the increasing crisis inserts and the increasing weather extreme, it becomes clear that cooperation and communication between different security organizations are essential. Through further training, targeted financial support and constant professional exchange at events such as the security forum, Tyrol will continue to work on his security and optimize the crisis management.
"Geosphere Austria does an excellent job for our security. Your weather forecasts are of enormous importance for preventive measures and the current position assessments," concluded Mair. The events in connection with the extreme weather events illustrate the need for constantly improved crisis management in Tyrol.
