Nurses from Vietnam: New hope for Innsbruck's social services

Innsbruck faces a significant development in the area of nursing: In the coming weeks, the first nurses from Vietnam are expected. This news follows a visit to a delegation from Innsbruck at the beginning of November in Vietnam, a country in which nursing staff are highly qualified. Despite their qualifications, many of them often do not find a job. This measure is part of a cooperation that is intended to serve to open a professional perspective in Tyrol to the affected nurses.

Vice Mayor Georg Willi, who is responsible for social issues, emphasizes that nursing staff in Vietnam are sometimes even trained at an academic level. Nevertheless, about a third remains without a job. Another advantage of these nurses is their ability to speak the German language: they take German lessons up to six hours a day to optimally prepare for their use.

cooperation with Vietnamese schools

According to Willi,

Up to the end of the year, two to three nurses in the Innsbruck social services (ISD) should begin. The cooperation with schools in Vietnam was initiated by a native Vietnamese woman who himself works in the nursing sector in Tyrol. This shows how local initiatives can beat international bridges and promote mutual support in the nursing sector.

A similar cooperation is also available in Vorarlberg, as Mayor Johannes Anzengruber mentioned. The coordination with the state of Tyrol also extends to the recognition of the training, known as "nostrification". Anzengruber explains that the mediation of jobs is not only about the ISD, but also about private care facilities.

Although there was talk of up to 60 Vietnamese nurses initially, Willi considers this number to be too high. It explains that the reality may tend in one direction, but it is still uncertain. This is done in the context of a competition with other institutions, such as larger clinics that also need nursing staff.

living space situation for nursing staff

Another important topic is the living space situation for the nursing staff who come to Innsbruck. While some of them will be able to find suitable living space themselves, support for others is required for others. Will's colleague Anzengruber emphasizes the need for affordable living space for the nursing staff in order to facilitate the start in their new environment. At the delegation in Vietnam, Vice Mayor Elisabeth Mayr from the SPÖ was also present, which underlines the political relevance of this initiative.
