After a mountain accident: missing 21-year-old found dead in Tyrol in Tyrol

The mountain rescue in Tyrol has been in use since Thursday to look for a 21-year-old German mountaineer who was missing in the High Mund area near Telfs. A lifeless person was found late Friday afternoon, but there is still an official confirmation about whether it is actually the missing man.

The recovery of the person by a police helicopter was initially not possible due to difficult weather conditions such as snow, fog and strong wind. The search that is to be continued on Saturday is a massive challenge because the terrain is dangerous and difficult to access.

The missing mountaineer had made his way to the summit with a compatriot on Thursday. However, the friend turned up early due to the onset of snow, while the 21-year-old continued his tour. He reached the summit around 3:40 p.m. and shortly afterwards sent a voice email to his companion, in which he asked to set an emergency call because he was injured and crashed about 100 meters.

In the result, an extensive search was initiated. 27 members of the mountain rescue TelfS searched for the area on Thursday evening, but had to stop the search due to the poor weather, the exposed location and the falling darkness around 9:00 p.m.

The situation remained tense on Friday. The search team, which was only 100 to 150 meters away from the person discovered, could not get closer because the risk of falling was too great. Despite their efforts, the rescue teams had to interrupt their missions again and again so as not to put themselves in danger.
