Free Ski Day: Tirol's school ski campaign for all school classes

A new school program was launched in Tyrol, which offers students the opportunity to experience skiing free of charge or at a very discounted manner. At today's presentation at the valley station of the Patscherkofelbahn in Innsbruck, important actors such as LH Anton Mattle emphasized that skiing is an integral part of the Tyrolean tradition and that enthusiasm for sport should also be passed on.

The program, which was developed in cooperation between the state of Tyrol, the Tyrol Womment Chamber (WK Tirol) and the Education Directorate, aims to enable school classes unbureaucratic and inexpensive ski excursions. "Skiing is more than just a sport," said Mattle. "It is important that as many young people as possible learn from an early age on the joy of movement and sport." This should help promote health and community spirit.

comprehensive support for schools

The school program provides that compulsory students can receive free ski garden, while older students get day cards for only five euros from the tenth school level. In addition, school classes can use a funded bus ride for their ski trip. This ensures that access to this sport is made possible for all students, regardless of their financial situation. The loan of the ski equipment was also organized inexpensively if necessary in order to continue to improve the possibilities.

cable car group chairman Reinhard Klier emphasizes that the cable cars are happy to provide their offers to help schools implement this campaign. Over the past few decades, between 30,000 and 50,000 pupils a year have been able to ski, and the campaign is now to be passed even broader to promote the sporting and social benefits of skiing. "We are pleased to be a partner of this project and thus create a positive experience for the children and young people," says Klier.

A particularly environmentally friendly aspects of the program is the support of the climate -friendly arrival by bus. Franz Sailer, chairman of the AutoBus company specialist group, emphasized that the modern bus fleet of the Tyrolean bus companies could offer optimal transport options. "A comfortable bus is a relief for students and teachers and makes the journey to the ski area even more attractive," says Sailer.

This is how the action works

The Tyrolean school ski campaign offers a completely carefree package: this not only includes the ski garden, but also the equipment and the journey to the ski area. School funds can apply for these offers once a year and receive a funding of up to 500 euros for travel expenses, provided that they travel with a local bus company. The educational directorate will soon inform schools about the action and the necessary application formalities.

In recent years, the number of participants on school days in the snow has decreased slightly, but those responsible hope that the new funding measures will lead to increasing number of participants. Around 43,000 participants on the ski trips are expected for the 2023/2024 season.

The action is therefore not only an incentive for the students to actively act, but also a step in the right direction to promote love for sport and movement in one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in Austria. You can find out more information about this comprehensive program here .
