Drama in Wattens: Stable in flames - fire brigade in large -scale use
On Friday afternoon, the outskirts of Wattens in Tyrol, in the Innsbruck-Land district, led to a serious fire in a horse stable, which resulted in a considerable fire service. The flames not only spread out in the barn, but also significantly damaged the adjacent farmhouse, which caused it to become uninhabitable for the time being. Fortunately, the tenant couple, consisting of a 43-year-old man and his 29-year-old wife, could be brought to safety in good time. Tragically, however, a foal and a cat lost their lives in the flames, while three horses could be saved.
The fire brigade was immediately alerted when the fire broke out. When it arrived, the barn was already in full fire. The heat and fire quickly spread to the house and even captured a neighboring electricity pylon, which then had to be switched off. The firefighters who came from Wattens as well as from surrounding communities and the Swarovski company fire brigade fought the flames for a long time. The barn and the adjacent workshop burned completely.
Studies on the cause of the fire
The exact cause of the fire is so far unclear and is being examined intensively. The tenant had carried out welding work in the workshop shortly before the fire broke out, which could possibly be connected to the fire, the police said. As reports confirm, the couple was able to get to safety thanks to their fast response.
For the duration of the operation, several streets, including Tyrolean Straße (B 171), were closed to traffic. This closure could finally be lifted after more than two hours, around 6 p.m. The rescue work was difficult by the spread of the fire, both in the barn and in the adjacent house, which was a major challenge for the firefighters.
The entire situation is a serious incident for the residents of the region and shows how quickly a danger situation can develop.
