Dornauer: Political support despite controversial appearance
Georg Dornauer, a prominent member of the SPÖ, is the focus of controversy that affect his political future. After his announcement to do without the functions of the SPÖ state chairman and the deputy governor, he still sticks to his remaining offices. Dornauer describes this withdrawal as "punishment enough", while at the same time he shows no intention to hand over his direct mandate in the state parliament. In his home district of Innsbruck-Land in particular, he continues to find support.
The incident that Dornauer brought into the line of fire is judged as a "stupid incident", which is not enough for him, but is considered an unfortunate decision by some supporters. "The stupidest thing he could do" admit even loyal comrades, but many are willing to give him another chance. Manfred Schafferer, Mayor of Absam, said that Dornauer's resignation was "not necessary" and signaled his support for the politician.
resistance and support
Among the supporters of Dornauer is Gabi Rothbacher, the mayor of Polling. Rothbacher emphasizes her loyalty and believes that Dornauer has contributed significantly to the positive result of the SPÖ in the last state elections. Despite this support, there are also skeptical voices. Rothbacher reported that many in the district about Dornauer are disappointed, which leads to a certain amount of pressure on him.
Brigitte Praxmarer, the mayor of Flaurling, is also concerned about the continuing difficulties of Dornauer. She believes that he would have been a valuable figure for the SPÖ. But there are also clear feedback, such as those of Thomas Öfner, the mayor of Zirl. He found that after the incident there was "no alternative to resignation" because the political principles of the SPÖ were violated by Dornauer's actions.
The SPÖ will hold a meeting of the Innsbruck-Land district committee in the coming days to discuss the situation. Max Unterrainer, Dornauer's Vice and former National Council, does not want to anticipate the talks, but speaks of the need to "look into the future as properly as possible - with whatever the main actors." The pressure on Dornauer grows because it has lost trust not only in the party, but also in the state parliament club, where he wants to get in as a normal MP. The storm for himself and the possible consequences are being pursued with tension.
