Tempo 100 on motorways? A way to the Stone Age for Udo Landbauer!
Österreich, Österreich - The debate about the speed limit on Austrian highways has been fully flared up. Udo Landbauer, the state party leader and deputy governor of the FPÖ, made a decisive statement against the new Tempo 100 recommendation by Christoph Badelt, the president of the fiscal council. In a clear statement, he demanded: "Please spare drivers and hard-working commuters with their reverse snail tempo fantasies." Landbauer is convinced that the proposed limitation would not have a positive impact on the climate, since Austria's CO₂ emissions in global comparison are already low. So he points out that the savings potential for such a regulation is not related to the causal displeasure and the restrictions for commuters who rely on the highway every day.
A call to higher speeds
"Tempo 100 would be a step into the mobile Stone Age," explains Landbauer and vehemently criticizes the idea. Instead, he calls for discussions about an increase in speed on suitable motorway sections - and thinks of up to 150 km/h. This does not come without any controversy; Landbauer had already met with a violent rejection of the Greens because of similar proposals, who saw a necessary step to combat climate change in the speed limit.
"Automs are a safe infrastructure, our cars are becoming increasingly modern, safe and less pollutant," said Landbauer. This offers an exciting perspective at a time when climate protection is increasingly in focus, which leads to a heated word battle between the political camps. Clear announcements and a blunt rhetoric are the means of underpining its position, as well as and krone.at report.
