Power failure in Prater: roller coaster panic and circulatory collapse!
In the Vienna Prater, there was a significant power failure on Monday evening, which also caught the Ernst Happel Stadium. A defective connection of a power cable was identified as the cause, possibly due to the heavy rain the day before. As Krone reported, several passengers hung upside down in the attractions, since around 80 percent of the rides were out of operation. Two young people suffered a circulatory collapse, including an 18-year-old who was caught about 15 minutes before she was successfully saved. The quick intervention of the emergency services prevented a greater danger, and the evacuation of the guests could be carried out within a few minutes.
a blackout in Prater
The Viennese networks confirm that more than 90 percent of households were supplied with electricity within 90 minutes. Nevertheless, there were still around 300 households in the second district without electricity on Tuesday morning, such as the press reported. In the Ernst Happel Stadium, where the Nation League game between Austria and Denmark was to take place on Monday, the kick-off was delayed by an hour and a half. During the waiting time, stadium spokesman Andy Marek provided entertainment and played songs to keep the fans happy.
The Viennese networks assume that such incidents often occur due to external effects. Manuela Gutenbrunner from the Wiener Netzen said that 70 percent of these power failures are caused by such influences. The incident illustrates the challenges with which the power supply is faced in cities, especially in extreme weather conditions.
