Tax surprise: 631 million euros automatically for 1.7 million!
Around 1.7 million citizens in Austria benefited from the unacceptable employee assessment (AANV) in 2024. As reported [ots] (https://www.ots.at/presseaus-sung/ots_20250423_ots0042/ohne- appende-tress-finanzverwaltung-2024- Klotomatic-631-millions-euro-out), credit notices of over 631 million euros were issued. On average, the taxpayers received a credit of EUR 378.80 for the year of assessment 2023. Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer emphasized the high service character of the financial department, which continuously works on the modernization and civic friendliness of its processes.
State Secretary Barbara Eibinger-Miedl emphasizes the efficiency and uncomplicatedness of the AANV. Taxpayers no longer have to submit a tax return to receive a tax credit. The system automatically calculates too much paid wage tax or social security amounts, provided that you do not do without the AANV. A tax assessment is issued without an application, and the credited amount is transferred directly to the bank account.
Details on employee assessment
Since the introduction of AANV in 2017, taxpayers have benefited from a simplified procedure. This procedure aims to reduce the effort for the citizens and to relieve the financial administration.
An important aspect of tax relief in Austria is the inflation compensation law from which many citizens benefit. The second stage of this law came into force on January 1, 2024, as the [Federal Government] (https://www.bundes government.de/breg-de/aktuelles/ taxally-entlastungen-2251158) informed.
tax relief and adjustments
Due to the adjustments, the basic tax allowance increases by 696 euros to 11,604 euros and the child allowance by 360 euros to 9,312 euros. These measures are intended to help secure the subsistence level of an adult.
In addition, the 2024 income tax tariff is modified in order to cushion the effects of the "cold progression". This is done to ensure that taxpayers do not slide into a higher tax class through salary increases that only compensate for inflation.
The soli free limit also increases, from 17,543 euros to 18,130 euros. Around 90 percent of the taxpayers have not paid a solidarity surcharge since the beginning of 2021. For example, a family with a double salary and two children saves 410 euros in a monthly gross work wage of 4,667 euros, while a single employee with a salary of 2,400 euros is relieved by 209 euros.
