Honoring the future communities of Styria: Living local cores in focus

The “Zukunftsgemeinde Steiermark” competition recently took place in Styria, in which various communities were awarded for their innovative and lively projects. The event was organized by Governor Christopher Drexler, the state parliament member Klaus Zenz and the President of the Styrian Volksbildungsenwerk, Wilhelm Gabalier. The award ceremony occurred in the auditorium of the old university in Graz.

This competition emphasizes the importance of the town center and rewards initiatives that contribute to the revival of these central areas in the communities. Drexler emphasized that the municipalities act as lifeline in Styria and presented excellent projects in the competition.

The focus of the competition was on the revival of historical buildings and the creation of meeting rooms in the Styrian communities.     1st place: Market town of Kalwang (Leoben district), "History and Modern forging"
    2nd place: Market town of Ligist (Voitsberg district), "New to create the churchyard in the village"
    3rd place: Market town of Krieglach (Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district), "A market is cleaning out"
  • Living local cores - rooms of the encounter in municipalities:
    1st place: municipality of Murau (Murau district), "Symbiosis of old and new"
    2nd place: municipality of Frohnleiten (Graz-Umgebung district), "Welcome to the sustainable Kreisla"
    3rd place: municipality of Fürstenfeld (Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district), "City of enjoyment"
In addition, individuals and groups were recognized for their special merits, including Gerlinde and Karl Nestelberger from Riegersburg and Julia Ehrlich Roob from Ligist. These honors reflect the commitment that is put into the development of the communities.

The competition represents an important incentive to continue to work creatively on the design of your own environment and shows that a variety of positive changes can be initiated through community efforts.
