Murau sets new standards: Real laboratory for the energy transition started

In the Murau district, an ambitious project is currently being launched that is intended to support and advance the energy transition. The woodenwelt Murau, a regional association for development, in cooperation with 18 partners from various sectors, has initiated a so -called real laboratory. It is said to find answers to the urgent questions of how renewable energies can be used efficiently and excess energy can be stored sensibly.

The real laboratory is an example of how regional actors can work together innovatively. The Murau district has already made a name for itself when it comes to the production and consumption of energy. Over the year, the district produces more electricity than it needs, but the challenge is the effective use of this energy at peak times when demand increases.

an integrated energy system

The initiative aims to establish a system power plant that is completely operated with renewable energies. The focus is on innovation spirit and practical approach. With a decentralized energy production and storage at different locations within the region, the real laboratory is intended to enable intelligent networking. Energy, heat and hydrogen must be optimally managed so that they are available when they are really needed.

Project manager Erich Fritz emphasizes the urgent need to better exploit the existing potential of sustainable energy sources: "Our energy vision is the opportunity to realize the regional energy transition. We have to use the existing resources and put it in an integrating system."

Scientific partnerships and local participation

Well -known scientific partners such as the Montan University Leoben, Hycenta Research GmbH and the AEE - Institute for Sustainable Technologies are responsible for the implementation of the project. Together with 15 other local partners, it is developed how the local energy can be systematically distributed and used as required. Financial support from the Ministry of the Environment and the State of Styria is guaranteed.

An important core idea of the real laboratory is the inclusion of the population. In the future, every citizen should be able to become part of the system power plant by not only producing, but also actively involved in the energy distribution. "We strive to network the systems digitally and to control them as required," explains Fritz.

The wooden deflection Murau brings a fresh wind into regional energy policy with this initiative and could possibly serve as a model for other regions across the country. This not only aims at sustainable energy supply, but also a step towards a successful energy transition.
