Weapons cache uncovered: mother and son in police sights!

In a dramatic raid in the Liezen district of Upper Styria on Saturday, police discovered a sizeable cache of weapons. During a search of a farmstead where a 50-year-old woman and her 17-year-old son live, officers found over 70 rifles, including famous models such as the Italian Mannlicher-Carcano carbine and the German K-98 carbine. The weapons also included an MG 42 machine gun from the Second World War and a Kalashnikov assault rifle. Additionally, police seized more than 5,000 rounds of ammunition, explosives and chemicals used to make pyrotechnic items, reported ORF Styria.

The search was carried out on the orders of the Leoben public prosecutor's office and even involved explosives experts and sniffer dogs. In this worrying situation, not only an extensive arsenal of weapons was discovered, but also National Socialist devotional items, which are punished in accordance with the Prohibition Act. These include helmets and caps with Nazi symbols as well as several suspected stolen traffic signs. The 50-year-old mother refused to testify, while her son admitted that he had inherited the banned items from his father. Both were reported for numerous offenses and a provisional weapons ban was imposed on them Salzburg24 reported. This incident raises questions about the security and handling of such a weapons cache.
