Guide Dementia: New edition in Leibnitz to support affected families

In September 2024, an important information material, the "guide", was presented during the "Long Day of Dementia" in Leibnitz. This comprehensive manual, which was developed especially for people with dementia and their relatives, met with exceptionally high demand. The first edition initiated by the Styrian Alzheimer's aid "Salz" was so quickly out of print that a second edition would appear at the end of November.

The "Guide Dementia" is available free of charge in the Leibnitz town hall and in the municipality's social information. Alternatively, the material can also be requested by email to socialinfo@leibnitz.at or by phone on 0664-88260653.

The relevance of the topic dementia

Mayor Michael Schumacher emphasizes how important it is to deal with the challenges of dementia. "Dementia not only affects the sick, but also the whole family. Therefore, it is essential for us as a community to form a strong network of people, initiatives and organizations that offers support." It is pleased that such a network already exists in Leibnitz.

The aim of the city is to give people with dementia a place in society where they are accepted and supported. As part of the “Step by step to the city without prejudices” campaign, regular events are organized that aim to reduce prejudices and to promote the integration of people with dementia. The newly published sign is a valuable instrument that is supposed to support this process.

  • Every last Monday of the month takes place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for relatives in the Leibnitz living room. These rounds are accompanied by the Styrian Alzheimer's aid.
  • Another meeting point, the space for encounter, takes place every second Monday of the month from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Here people with dementia can spend time together in a pleasant atmosphere, while relatives have the opportunity to exchange ideas or simply enjoy a break. Registration takes place on 0664/1839940.

These offers and the signpost help to raise awareness of dementia and offer the families affected to the affected families. The municipality of Leibnitz is actively committed to creating an environment that promotes consideration and understanding.
