Suspicious object at the Smart Tower: Police cordon off the area!
The situation is tense in the heart of Graz! Police have heavily cordoned off the area around the Smart Tower after finding a suspicious object at a tram stop. According to the Today.at The entire sector was fenced off, so that tram line 6 is currently not running and instead turns in Laudongasse. In addition, replacement buses were set up to take passengers to the Smart City terminus. The affected stops, including Daungasse and Nikolaus-Harnoncourt-Park, are temporarily out of service.
The Styria State Police Directorate has requested a team from the defusing service to go to the scene. Localities had to be evacuated near the Helmut List Hall and the park of the same name, which underlines the urgency of the incident. Meanwhile, Nikolaus Harnoncourt Park, which has just been celebrated for its extensive green space structure and recreational opportunities, is causing further confusion as people can no longer easily visit this popular spot on their daily routine, as Graz.at reported.
Importance of the park
Nikolaus Harnoncourt Park, named after the famous conductor, is valued not only for its design, but also for the fresh trees that were planted there. The newly planted 71 trees, including silver linden trees and ornamental cherries, improve air quality and provide shade in summer. Particularly noteworthy is the water feature with 11 fountains, an attraction for families and a place to relax in the city.
