A terrible traffic accident cost the life of a 16-year-old moped driver on Wednesday afternoon on the B77 between Judenburg and Fohnsdorf. The fatal incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when an 83-year-old driver drove into oncoming traffic for reasons that are still unclear. Eye witnesses reported that the man first hit an oncoming car and started to skid, which escalated the situation dramatically ORF Styria reported.
During the skidding process, the senior citizen collided with the moped of the 16-year-old, who was traveling with her 14-year-old pillion rider. Both fell due to the impact. Tragically, the 16-year-old died from her injuries at the scene of the accident. Her companion was seriously injured and, after initial medical treatment, was immediately flown to UKH Graz. The 83-year-old driver also suffered injuries and was transported to the LKH Judenburg for treatment crown reported.
Consequences of accidents and traffic disruptions
As a result of the accident, the B77 was closed for around three hours, which led to significant traffic delays. Extensive investigations were carried out by the police, but alcohol tests carried out on the person who caused the accident were negative. Investigators are now concentrating on the exact circumstances that led to this devastating accident.
