Schöpf returns to Austria: Wolfsberger AC is strengthening!
Wolfsberger AC today announced a spectacular reinforcement for the current season. As the Lavanttaler officially announced, former ÖFB team player Alessandro Schöpf is returning to Austria and joining the club. The 30-year-old midfielder will support the “Wolves” from now on. Before his return, Schöpf last played in Major League Soccer (MLS) for the Vancouver Whitecaps, where his contract was not extended last year, meaning he has been without a club since the beginning of January. Now he will be presented at a press conference at 12:00 p.m., an event that is already causing a lot of excitement as he is Austria's only goalscorer at Euro 2016.
The Tyrolean native and versatile player has played extensively in various leagues during his career, including the German Bundesliga and the MLS. He scored 40 goals in 143 appearances in the Bundesliga and made 32 appearances for the Austrian national team. Schöpf explained his return to Austria with the words: “I feel ready to support the team and perhaps achieve an international starting place.” His family life also played a role in the decision to come back home, while the financial conditions were rather secondary for him. Head coach Dietmar Kühbauer was enthusiastic about the return of Schöpf, who brings “huge international experience” and can significantly strengthen the team.
New additions to the Wolves
In addition to Schöpf, Anderson Niangbo will also be part of the Wolfsberg squad. The 25-year-old Ivorian was previously without a club after playing for Konyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig. He was already on loan to the WAC from 2019 to 2020 and is now signed permanently. Niangbo also brings a lot of experience with him, having worked for Red Bull Salzburg and Sturm Graz in the past, among others. These two commitments clearly show that the WAC has serious ambitions to reach the top places in the ADMIRAL Bundesliga this season, as it already has laola1.at reported. Schöpf can also look back on his extensive career in the Bundesliga, in which he played for FC Schalke 04 and 1. FC Nürnberg, among others, which further increases his qualities in the eyes of fans and those responsible Wikipedia holds on.
