LKH Weiz will be a trauma center: Orthopedics around the clock in the future!
A significant change is imminent for the LKH Weiz. From October 1, 2025, the hospital will act as a regional trauma center and introduce a new department for orthopedics and traumatology. Wolfgang Köle, the medical director of the Hospital Association LKH-Univ. Clinic Graz, confirmed that the orthopedic traumatological outpatient clinic will continue to be open around the clock, as orf.at . This realignment is part of a previously planned concept of the Kages that was developed in the course of the foundation of the hospital network with the University Hospital Graz.
The background to this structural change is the upcoming retirement of the previous head of the surgical department, which worked as a general and trauma surgeon. The Kages said that due to this change, the two disciplines at the location can no longer be covered in the future. The transition phase begins in summer, in which the surgical department is transferred to the new orthopedic traumatological department. Patients who need general surgery will be treated in the University Hospital Graz or in the Hospital in Feldbach in the future.
Medical excellence at the LKH Weiz
In addition to the realignment in surgery, the LKH Weiz remains a center for internal medicine. State-of-the-art diagnostic means are used to recognize and treat diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, digestive problems, infectious diseases and kidney diseases. All therapies aim to restore and stabilize the patient's vital functions as it is described on lkh-weiz.at
