Graz: NEOS community council calls for deletion of trans shelter money
In the Graz special council, an interesting debate has taken place as to whether additional financial resources are necessary for politicians. These funds, often referred to as "shining money" or femoral funds, are intended to complement the party and club funding. The Neos municipal council Philipp Pointner has vehemently spoken out for the cancellation of these funds, since this city of Graz should cost over one million euros every year.
Pointner's argument, however, met with little approval from his colleagues. In addition to the KFG, a formation around the former FPÖ politician Alexis Pascuttini, there were no other advocates for the abolition of the supporters. These funds were considered necessary to maintain political business, which led to an intensive discussion within the committee.
controversy about politician financing
Pointers' passionate opinions show that financing political activities is a sensitive topic. Opponents of the deletion believe that the femoral funds play an essential role in granting politicians flexibility and freedom of action. The question of whether such funds are really necessary or whether they are only regarded as unnecessary state expenditure will probably be discussed for a long time.
The proposal to abolish the funds not only raises practical, but also ethical questions. At a time when transparency and responsibility are of public interest, the question arises whether the additional financing is actually justified or whether it only serves to finance political games.
The discussion in the Graz special council illustrates the tensions about the correct financing of politicians and the perception of economic responsibility in the city. Further information on this important topic is available in an article www.derstandard.at .
