Impressive crib art: from sand to ice on Lake Neusiedl
The Christmas season not only brings a festive atmosphere, but also impressive cribs that often offer a creative twist in traditional representations. The cribs, which are made of unusual materials such as sand and ice, are particularly remarkable and sometimes achieve gigantic dimensions.
One of the most famous sand cribs is located on the Italian Adriatic coast in Lignano Sabbiadoro, between Venice and Trieste. A sand crib has been built here for more than 20 years, which is the largest of its kind in Italy. The sand used for this is drawn directly on the beach: around 300 tons of Meeressand are transformed into an impressive Christmas presentation, which can be visited from December 7th to February. Access is free, with the local tourist office hoping for donations to continue tradition.

In the meantime, a Finnish artist, Kimmo Frosti, ensures an exciting ice experience in Graz. This year he designed an impressive crib that was made from 35 tons of ice and reached the dimensions of five meters wide and seven meters. This unique crib has been presented regularly in the farm of the country house for over two decades and can be viewed free of charge by the visitors from November 30th to the end of December. Frosti also guarantees that any melting damage is repaired immediately, so that the crib always shines in its full splendor.
Two hours of car from Graz, on Lake Neusiedler, a third crib is built up, which causes a sensation. From November 23, a walk -in crib will be installed on the seaside stage, which represents the scenery of Bethlehem in an impressive size: with a length of 90 meters and a height of 18 meters. This impressive attraction is accompanied by a light and music show that takes place every day from 4.30 p.m. The crib can be visited by January 5, whereby the entry for adults is 19 euros and for children between 7 and 15 years 9 euros. Children under the age of 7 have free admission.
These extraordinary cribs are more than just festive decorations - they offer an impressive mix of art and craft that keeps tradition alive and attracts visitors from near and far. For more information about these impressive Christmas attractions, See the current reporting on Volksblatt.at .
