Rise in danger: Admira misses the victory and Ried moves up!

In the ADMIRAL 2nd League the promotion race is becoming more and more exciting. Admira, which had been leading the table since matchday nine, suffered a bitter 2-0 defeat in a direct duel against pursuers Ried on matchday 27. Admira was unable to win the last four games, of which the last three were lost. This means the team only has three games left to maintain their chances of promotion. Head coach Thomas Silberberger said: “The setback comes at the wrong time.”

In a series of unfortunate results, the negative run began with a disappointing 2-2 against Stripfing, followed by defeats against Amstetten, Sturm II and the most recent duel with Ried. Silberberger made it clear that promotion does not only depend on the defeat against Ried, but also on previous point losses. He also praised Ried for their strong defense.

The controversial decisions

The game against Ried was not free from controversial decisions. In a crucial scene there was a collision between goalkeeper Andreas Leitner and Admiras Reinhard Young. The referee Sebastian Gishamer did not award a penalty, which Silberberger could have seen as a wrong decision. He expressed skepticism about this referee's decision, but was overall satisfied with the referee's performance.

Admira appeared harmless in attack, especially since veteran Deni Alar was missing due to muscular problems. To ensure promotion, Silberberger emphasized that the last three remaining games must be won. He concluded with the encouraging statement that every negative streak ends at some point.

Pure competition excitement

With six rounds to go before the end of the season, the promotion duel remains exciting. While Admira only got one point in the game against Stripfing, Ried was able to attract attention with a 2-1 win against St. Pölten. Michael Sollbauer took the lead in the 38th minute, but Claudy M'Buyi equalized with a penalty in the 71st minute before Nikki Havenaar scored the winning goal for Ried in the 79th minute. As a result, Ried moves within two points of Admira.

Current results from the 24th round of the 2nd league set the framework for emotional decisions in the remaining season:

Game Result
Admira Wacker – stripping 2:2
St. Pölten – Ried 1:2
Kapfenberg – Amstetten 3:2
Austria Lustenau – Liefering 1:2
FAC – Rapid II 2:0
Horn – Black and White Bregenz 3:2
Lafnitz – Voitsberg 1:3
