New initial care outpatient clinic Graz-West: Faster help for Styrian
From December 2024, the first-supply outpatient clinic (EVA) Graz-West will gradually start service in Auva-Aukh Styria. This new facility is seen in Austria as a showcase project, which was made possible by cooperation between six organizations. The aim is to offer patients more quickly to the correct medical care and at the same time to relieve the overwhelmed hospital sampling of the UKH Graz and the LKH Graz II.
The reason for the need for such a facility lies in the high number of patients who come to the hospital for treatments, although their needs could also be met in the resident area. Many bring themselves into the hospital samples, which not only means time, but also lets someone wait with an actual medical emergency.

The EVA was created with the aim of acting as a central point of contact for people who need support without an appointment, but does not require hospital medical treatment. The opening times are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on weekends and public holidays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Much of general medical acute care is provided here, including radiological services.
This not only improves the situation for patients, but also for medical staff in hospitals. Health Councilor Karlheinz Kornhäusl expressed itself optimistically and said: "My goal is that the Styrians get to appointments faster. With the new EVA, we take another step for more targeted care." This cooperation between the institutions sets a new benchmark in the health care of the region.
teamwork for better results
For the Eva Graz-West, the AUVA, various health insurance institutions and the Styria health fund work together. Günther Stangl, chairman of the Auva State Center Committee Graz, emphasized that Eva not only offers a solution for patients with minor injuries, but also helps to relieve the valuable resources of the hospitals. He explained: "The Eva gives all patients the right care and, if necessary, refer directly to suitable specialist departments."
With the operation of the initial care outpatient clinic, one also wants to implement the principle of the "Best Point of Service", i.e. the most efficient type of medical care for every patient. Auva general director Alexander Bernart also emphasizes the advantages of such facilities and refers to positive experiences from other regions.
In addition, the project is supported by the Austrian Health Insurance Fund, whose chairwoman Josef Harb and Vinzenz Harrer emphasize that the establishment of the EVA will be an important role in the Styrian health system by ensuring that patients are treated efficiently and needs -based.
In cooperation with the Styrian Hospital Society Kages, digital radiological findings also provide significant support, which benefits the patient. The Graz-West initial supply outpatient clinic becomes another component in an advanced health system that can face the challenges of the future.
