The countdown to the Styrian state election: Where are the parties?

The state election in Styria is getting closer. On November 24th the time has come and the parties brought their election campaigns into the decisive phase. Surprisingly, the election campaign has so far remained fair and theme -oriented, with a outstanding point of migration, which, however, remains in the background. The Greens, Neos and the Freedom Party, who prepare well for the final sprint, receive support in particular.

The federal politicians who were present at various events last week are particularly active in politics. On Tuesday, Sandra Krautwaschl, the club chairwoman of the Greens, held a press conference together with the outgoing Minister of Health Johannes Rauch, which revolved around important topics such as preventive care, care and the lead hospital. The FPÖ also had a prominent guest: Marlene Svazek, the deputy governor from Salzburg, spoke on Friday in Feldbach about the projects of the freedom.

political discussions and topics

In a special meeting of the state parliament, the Styrian health policy caused a sensation. A passionate conversation revolved around the lead hospital, now known as the "Stainach Clinic". In this context, the FPÖ made an urgent request to the state of Health Karlheinz Kornhäusl. The SPÖ's rather reserved reaction, which showed little presence in this debate, was striking.

Health State Councilor Kornhäusl will meanwhile present a new health center in Leoben on Tuesday, while Bilding State Councilor Werner Amon will present the “Styrian Children's Portal”. This shows that the state councils continue to put their topics in the foreground, while the election campaign increases more and more.

Another exciting moment is on Tuesday: The six top candidates are invited to dialogue in the ORF state studio to compete in a media meeting. This is followed by a discussion round of the Styrian crown and Puls 24 on Wednesday, which rounds off the campaign round of the state parliament parties.

On Friday, the last day of election movements, the parties will carry out their final events in the city center of Graz. The ÖVP starts its final in the colorful district of Lend, where Governor Drexler acts as the main speaker. At the same time, the SPÖ and the Greens invite you to their own events, where there will also be musical support and cozy discussions with voters.

The Freedom Party announced its election campaign ending on Thursday evening with an event in the Graz soap factory. The mood is charged because the FPÖ has been in the top in the polls for months and puts a lot of pressure on the competing parties. The SPÖ, on the other hand, has moved between 21 and 24 percent in a stable area, while the Greens may have difficulty keeping their results from last year.

In particular, the surveys show that the FPÖ is in the top priority in voting. The question of which coalitions are possible after the election, remains in the room. The FPÖ has not withheld its claims to register its claims to government responsibility, while the ÖVP and SPÖ, which traditionally coalition with each other, could now face the challenge of finding potential partners in the new political landscape.

For the smaller lists, such as the MfG Austria and the corruption-free citizen list, it will be exciting whether you can make the leap into the state parliament. In the past, the most important parties, especially ÖVP and SPÖ, had dominated the state elections. A look at the 2019 events shows how quickly the political landscape can change, and it remains to be seen how voters will decide next Sunday.

In this critical phase of the election campaign, the excitement is unmistakable and the results from the last surveys seem to indicate a dream for some, but a nightmare for others. The polling station closes on November 24th and the tension will continue to increase.
