The future of the Viana Styria association: Structural reform and new elections are pending

At the recent extraordinary general meeting of the historical association Viana Styria in the Gasthof Nabernik, there was a solid initiatives for a sustainable future of the association. The chairman Karl Dudek emphasized that many tasks are currently resting over too few shoulders and therefore a restructuring is necessary. The meeting took place last Thursday, and numerous members were ready to take new ground.

During the meeting, Dudek presented his ideas for redesigning the club structure, which are to be divided into different subject areas. These include culture and history, scientific work as well as public relations work, which are intended to promote future events and projects of the association. "We have to redistribute the tasks," said Dudek and asked the members to actively participate in the work.

A central point of the discussion was the willingness of the members to take responsibility. Some are concerned that the tasks could be too extensive. "There is full voluntariness," Dudek and the secretary Erik Runge reassured. Instead of taking over complete areas of responsibility, smaller areas could be tackled. This seemed to open the members a viable path and to reduce the hurdles that may exist.

A proposal was to involve the youth more and to look for cooperation with regional tourism offices. In addition, it was suggested to use modern means of communication such as social media to increase the visibility and reach of the association. Ideas such as the introduction of car stickers and the presentation of research work in scientific media were also discussed. The concept of a learning labyrinth was also approved.

In terms of new board elections, Dudek announced that they should be pre -laid to 2025. The members had the opportunity to submit their suggestions via email, which should show that their opinions are taken seriously. Dudek expressed dissatisfaction with regard to the minor support from the state of Styria for the association magazine "Zeitenwinden" and pointed out some upcoming social events, including a Christmas party and regular monthly meetings.

All in all, the meeting showed that the members of the Viana Styria association are willing to get involved in a new, structured framework. A detailed report on the results of this meeting is www.meinbezirk.at available.
