This tradition has been preserved to this day and is now celebrated internationally as a fighting day of the labor movement. The first corneasters took place in Austria in 1890 and served the demand for the eight -hour day.

memory of the roots of May 1st

May 1st has a deeper cultural meaning that goes beyond classic May customs. The day originally included regional customs such as the setting up of maypoles and carrying around junk, but this has no connection to the later workers' day. It was only in the following years that the 1st May prevailed as a symbol of the workers' movement and was also used in rural regions.
